President’s Report
The newly elected Trust committee met earlier this week and I was re-appointed as the President for a third year. Other appointments are:
  • Janet Hayes, Vice President.
  • Michael McAuley, Secretary.
  • Nina Mital, Treasurer.
  • Bill Rankine, Parramatta Council Liaison officer.
  • Ram Bhat, Hornsby Council Liaison Officer.
  • Brian Shirley,  Web site and eNews officer.
We also have our Facebook sub-committee consisting of Clarissa Luxford, Deirdree Wallwork and Stephen Jenke. I’m pleased that there is such a strong and willing team involved in the Trust.  At last week’s Beecroft Probus meeting, I was asked what the greatest achievement of the Trust since its inception in 1964 has been. After a moment’s hesitation I simply said the continued success of the Trust in serving the needs of our local community.

By the time you receive this eNews my wife and I will be overseas on a holiday for five weeks and Janet Hayes will also be away for two weeks. Other members of the committee will be managing the Federal Meet the Candidates meeting in early April.

The forthcoming Federal Elections - reminder
The Trust has booked the Beecroft Bowling Club (Beecroft Club) in Copeland Road for a “Meet the Candidates” evening on Monday 8th April 2019, commencing at 7.30pm sharp. This is traditionally an event where the Trust invites all candidates for the Federal Seat of Berowra to address the residents of Beecroft and Cheltenham.  The meeting will follow a similar format to previous years with each candidate given a 5 minute time frame to present their views, followed by a formal Q and A segment. Supper will be provided following the meeting at 9.15pm, providing the opportunity for residents to chat informally with the candidates till 10pm. The Trust will have the bar closed for the evening.
Beecroft ANZAC Day Ceremony, Thursday 25th April
This is always a very special ocasion and everyone is welcome.
Assembly for a short march to the Cenotaph will begin at 2.45pm near the children’s playground at the entrance to the railway station.
The Anzac Day Service will begin at 3pm at the Cenotaph.
Afternoon tea will be served in the Community Centre after the Service.

Heritage Cottage Destroyed
In 1838 a farmer’s cottage was built near the corner of Copeland Road and Pennant Hills Road. This building was perhaps the oldest building in the Hornsby Shire.
The cottage was the subject of a heritage order.

In the course of building of an over 55 development(at 587 Pennant Hills Road), the heritage building in March/April 2018 was demolished-contrary to the original development approval.

The developer in July 2018 (shortly after the demolition of the heritage building came to light ) lodged a development application for reconstruction of the cottage.

Needless to say, the demolition of this heritage farmer’s cottage  originally built in 1838 is a loss to our history.

The Trust is keen to speak urgently to anyone who remembers the farmer’s cottage before its demolition. If you remember the cottage before its demolition in March/April 2018, please ring our Secretary Michael McAuley on 0409 115981 or email mmcauley@selbornechambers,com
